For my son’s final football game, the organizers wanted to celebrate in a big way.
I made a banner for the team to run through — there was even smoke and all the pageantry!
Imagine my son, number 00, leading the charge through the banner!
After the game I handed out cupcakes.
My son requested my S’more Cupcakes, but I wanted to give them a special twist for the occasion.
Here in Nebraska — HUSKER NATION — the first-string defensive players are honored with Black Shirts.
They also wear a black circle on the back of their helmets and often cross their arms in an X over their chest as a Skull and Crossbones salute: “Throw The Bones.”
For more background, many sources describe the Blackshirts tradition and its role in Husker football.
I decided to make my usual S’more cupcakes — rich chocolate cake topped with marshmallow buttercream — but themed them to match the Blackshirts spirit.
Instead of my usual teddy grahams, I used bone-shaped graham crackers (Scooby Snacks), added a small piece of Hershey’s chocolate, and made little picks from 3D scrapbook stickers to create a playful, team-themed topper.
They turned out adorable and were an instant hit with the kids.
Football-player approved!
